Insertion & Removal of RGP Lenses
Insertion
- Always wash your hands thoroughly using antibacterial soap and ensure they are completely dry using a lint-free cloth before handling your lenses.
- Remove the lens to be inserted from the case and place it on the palm of your hand. Add a drop of wetting solution to the surface.
- Place the lens on the tip of the index finger of your right hand.
- Hold the upper eyelid open using your left hand, making sure your fingers are placed along the lash line to help keep the eye wide open.
- Using the middle finger of your right hand, pull the lower eyelid down and move the lens towards the eye.
- Gently place the lens onto the cornea and slowly release the eyelids.
- Repeat the process for the other eye.
- If you are left-handed, simply swap hands during the process.
Removal
- Always wash your hands thoroughly using antibacterial soap and ensure they are completely dry using a lint-free cloth before handling your lenses.
- Method 1: For the right eye, use the index finger of your right hand and gently squeeze the lower eyelid towards the eye, just under the lens.
- Simultaneously, use the index finger of your left hand to squeeze the upper eyelid towards the eye, again just under the lens.
- The lens should now slide out of the eye.
- Repeat the process for the other eye.
- Method 2: For the right eye, place your right index finger at the corner of your eye.
- Keep your left hand under the eye to catch the lens.
- Keep the eye open wide as if staring and gently pull the upper eyelid towards the right ear using your right index finger, then blink.
- The lens should now pop out of your eye.
- Repeat the process for the other eye, using your left index finger for the left eye and pulling the upper eyelid towards the left ear before blinking.
- Use your right hand to catch the lens.
